Time to Write!

| July 16, 2012

It’s Monday! Sometimes, I’m glad to see Monday arrive–say, when I’ve had a distracting weekend. Because of our crazy heat and air quality, I greet this Monday with a sinus headache, but have already treated, and am determined to forget it in the midst of my story! Gotta run! No time for more distraction!

Lessons, Connections

| July 13, 2012

A friend and I were talking writing yesterday. She’s doing a talk soon about lessons she’s learned in writing, and she asked me if there was anything I’d suggest. I have a few things. A couple of years ago I decided I wanted a change. It happens. Since then, I’ve learned anew about rejection and […]

Thursday, after the Storm

| July 12, 2012

We had quite a day yesterday. Our kitty, who visits this blog regularly, seemed to be deathly ill. He’s 19, and he’s not the man he used to be, but he’s still our kitty, and–well, frankly, there are marriages that don’t last as long as we’ve had him. I literally begged the vet to see […]

Rain!

| July 11, 2012

As I write this in the wee hours of Tuesday-turning-into-Wednesday, we finally have rain! We’ve had it in the forecast for a week, but every day, it gathers all around us and then scurries away. We’ve seen downpours less than five miles away on the news while we’re dry as a bone. I don’t have […]

First, you…

| July 10, 2012

Fast Draft makes me examine my process. I don’t really seem to have one. I don’t want to stare at a blank page when I’m supposed to be drafting fast, so I’ve made a plan. Not really an outline, but a list of scenes I need to write. Why do I bother? I’ve sold 16 […]

Why are Mondays so random?

| July 9, 2012

I’ve been a little sad, and for once, it’s not just the @##$#$ heat. Andy Griffith died, and I can’t seem to stop being sad about it. I love to visit Mayberry with my cousin and my aunts. Every year during Girls’ Week, we watch our favorite episodes, “Convicts-at-Large,” “The Haunted House,” and so many […]

Happy 4th of July!

| July 4, 2012

It’s so hot and dry, fireworks are banned. It’s a good thing the British aren’t coming. We’d have to fend them off with garden hoses around here. My many times distant great-grandfather fended them off in the infantry and was granted land in a place called Dumplin Valley for his efforts. I wish I knew […]

Visiting Morse in a Prequel

| July 2, 2012

Inspector Morse, that is. Do you love mysteries? I’ve mentioned Morse before, because I literally mourn him, and I mourn the actor who became him in my head, John Thaw. Morse is my favorite kind of character, a not-always good, sometimes-quite-bad fighter who cannot stop in his quest. He could be angry and arrogant and […]
