It’s Saturday, but the Internet’s up at my house.

An astonishing turn of events.

Normally, I like to skip blogging on Saturday/Sunday, but I’ve been unable to reach my own site almost all week. Not much going on, really, unless you’re leaning over my shoulder watching the words grow. And ebb, actually. I’m writing and rewriting, adding and culling. The usual when I’m preparing a proposal.

Oh, for those golden days when I knew what I was doing and just burst forth one story after another. Of course, I didn’t know what I was doing, but my blithe ignorance was a comfy coat.

Even now, I find I’m ignoring subtlety in favor of using symbolism like an anvil to the reader’s head. But sometimes that’s what the story needs. Maybe all this culling/adding (editing) is a process for infusing a little subtlety.

But–not much sleep last night, so I worked through the wee hours and got tonight’s supper going in the crock pot. The house smells divine, and I think supper may be ready by lunchtime. Avert your eyes if you don’t like okra. I made this stew out of ground sirloin (just a touch), green beans, okra, tomatoes, potatoes, onions and mushrooms. Probably sounds pretty hideous, but–all my favorite things–and for some reason a hint of beef seemed like a plan. None of my family enjoys tomatoes in a stew, but they’re all out for eating-time tonight, so I’m having my stew with a sprinkling of grated parmesan. Only, the okra has disappeared during its sojourn in the crockpot. I don’t think I understand the physics of okra.

And maybe instead of waxing about okra, I should get back to those pages that need some polish!
