Walking in the Rain!

Walking in the Rain!

I didn’t always. There was one day job where the idea of Monday began to haunt me on Saturday at about noon. That’s when I got serious about this whole writing thing. I also started contracting as a technical writer because the most important part of any job is the group of folks who also work there, and contracts don’t last forever unless both sides want them to.

These days, Monday means everyone else goes back to work and school, and my favorite haunts clear out. The way they should! They’re my haunts!

But it was a productive weekend. I wrote the initial scene for my novella in the proposed holiday anthology. I wrote some words for my cozy, and I read the initial scenes from my co-proposers in the anthology.

I almost didn’t exercise. Last week turned chilly around here. On Thursday, I walked into the pool, rejoicing in the cold air temps, even if the water was still like microwaved soup. By Friday, after one night in the lower 60s, the water was so cold I had leg cramps by the time I clambered out. Saturday, I got as far as the top step and scrambled out of the icy water. If you knew me, you’d realize that means it was truly cold.

Since I’d exercised every day last week, I didn’t worry about skipping one day. But yesterday the pool was still cold, and I just kept putting off the gym. Finally, at a little after 8 last night, I put on my shoes and stepped out to walk in the neighborhood. Into rain. I could have leapt back inside. (I considered it.) Instead, I searched the car for my umbrella. After a rather muggy walk, I had to maneuver my massive hair back inside the house, but yay–I stuck to it! To adapt a writer’s phrase–I hate exercising. I love having exercised.

I never hate writing. (Almost never.) But I do love having written, too! Gotta remind myself–determination works for squaring off with the blank page as well!

And seriously–isn’t that the cutest umbrella, ever?  🙂
