It’s Thursday?

I had no idea. This is definitely a random day. I’m editing, getting ready to send in the revised proposal. Busy–and loving being busy!

I’ve been thinking all night about tension because strange noises have been keeping me awake all night. Dogs–at least my girl, who just woke up with the latest odd sound–and I think it was a dog. Big vehicles that don’t normally show up in our neighborhood in the wee hours. (Although, oddly, because we’re in the woods, strange cars do drop by here at strange times. One night I was searching for my jump drive on my desk at hazy o’clock in the a.m., and a car parked in the cul de sac blew out of here as if the driver had been caught–at something.)

Anywhooo–when to break tension? It’s actually strongest when you don’t have a clue what’s going on. I’ve been a big believer in scary imaginings being the biggest tension givers so it’s a bit of a shock to find that having no idea is worse–although I may be hard at work on scary imaginings.

Rambling a bit, but I’m trying to find just the right mix of information vs. foreshadowing. Finding the right recipe for the audience for this project–without overthinking. No overthinking this time around!

And I should go back to work before the family gets up and expects me to pay attention. I thought the time was earlier than it is. The days are shorter, but the temps are hotter around here. (Brace for tangent!) A snake came to cool in the pool night before last. I need a snake wrangler who’ll also stand guard while I swim lest a new snake jumps in. Roll on, Autumn.

Roll on edits!

P.S. Check out Kate Walker’s blog for an amazing workshop on conflict. Read back for several days to find all the posts–and Kate’s wisdom! (And then you’ll probably want to buy all her books–because they’re that good–and to thank her!)
