Let it snow-ice-sleet!

Posted By on January 10, 2011

We’ve had it all since about 7 last night. Usually, when the weather folk forecast snow around here, we nod sagely and enjoy the hype despite knowing all will come to naught. Or a dusting. Not this time! It started with pellets of ice, switched to snow, on to freezing rain, back to snow, and now ice again.

The beloved and I spent two hours trekking through it last night. He grew up driving in snow. I can do it, but I’d rather not. At one point, a driver in front of us stopped on a hill. Bad decision. He was close enough to the crest of the hill that he made it. If not for the beloved, I’d still be there, spinning wheels. The man knew what to do, and eventually, we turned up at home again, where the fluffy snow is now packed down beneath a layer of ice–as you can see.

But it’s beautiful. Can you see the bluish tint to the light? And the clean, clean snow. I love the plink of the ice against our windows. I love that I actually made it to the grocery so we’re not plotting ways to turn all Donner on each other! I love that I’m going to work in front of a snow-covered landscape that’s actually real.

Most of all, I love that my husband got us home–unlike the man who set his BMW on fire this morning because he got impatient spinning his wheels on the ice on one of the busiest off ramps in the city. Did you even know a guy could set his car on fire by spinning his stuck wheels?

That’s an inescapable metaphor!

We woke up to 4 1/2 inches this morning and its still spitting snow. They gave us the day off from work. If they are going to keep up this practice, I’ll say let it snow!!!!

I know! It’s like a snow when we were young, isn’t it? And you got a snow day! Not even the children are out in our neighborhood because it’s so slippery here. We did have about a five-hour power outage over night, but everything’s working now. I’m kind of glad because I’m not sure I know how to grill breakfast!

Hope y’all have fun with your free time! Oh for a round garbage can lid! (After a gallon of bleach, of course!)
