Just Another Random Monday

(First, an explanation of random photo–we’re due storms today. I took this photo during a stormy walk last fall. Amazing sky!)

Yay! Colin Firth and The King’s Speech won!  I’m so happy! I’ve always admired George VI, who stepped up to do a job replete with opportunities to face his worst fear. (Not that I know it was his worst fear. It would have been mine in the same circumstance.) So brave, and such a brave story. And yay for the writer, David Seidler, who had me crying by the end of his speech. (And his movie!)

I love James Franco–not just because–holy moley, the man is gorgeous. But he’s willing to try anything. In front of the whole world. I want to be that brave. Plus, I’ve never been in anyone’s pocket during the Oscar’s before (See http://Twitter.com/JamesFranco).

And in the spirit of being unafraid to try anything, I must complete word count this morning–or at least before this evening. Tonight, my girl and I are taking a painting lesson. I’m really looking forward to it, except for one thing. I can’t paint–I’m not artistic in any way. In fact in school (Craftwork class, a requirement when I was in 7th grade; I guess they wanted us to be creative, no matter what), I had to make a papier mache bumble bee (well, I was allowed to choose the subject). It still looms large and sinister in nightmares. I honestly thought a bumble bee would be easy. Uh-huh. It turned out to be kind of square and really large (as I kept trying to fix it, it grew–like one of those 50s horror movies bugs–a bumble bee dosed with bad nuclear fallout), and then it hung in the craftwork room for the rest of the year–just perfect for the purpose of providing public humiliation. So–I’m choosing to undergo a similar experience tonight. Bring it on, metaphorical bumble bee!  :-)

I see a theme. Often, I don’t find my theme until I finish a story, so finding a theme in a blog post is nice. Mind you, my go-to theme is trust, so I can usually find strains of that in any batch of words I cook up. But–today, I’m going to approach work and the world without fear!

Are you doing Painting with a Twist? If so, you’ll have a blast!

Ohhhh, no! There’s one opening sort of near us soon, so maybe I’ll try that! But this is just at a place in town. I know it’ll be fun–and who knows–maybe I’m teachable!
