Happy 4th of July!

It’s so hot and dry, fireworks are banned. It’s a good thing the British aren’t coming. We’d have to fend them off with garden hoses around here.
My many times distant great-grandfather fended them off in the infantry and was granted land in a place called Dumplin Valley for his efforts. I wish I knew more about the day to day of his life and his fight. I wish I knew more about the Revolutionary War. Since I don’t, I just bought Independence, The Struggle to Set America Free, by John Ferling. It’s on sale at Amazon, and it has great reviews. I’ve spent my last few Independence Days cooking and eating yummy food, watching fireworks, hanging out with friends. Doing all that today as well, but maybe I’ll also learn something new about our history.
