Screen Shot 2013-09-17 at 8.00.21 AMRIP VIII is a challenge sponsored by Carl, at Stainless Steel Droppings. I’m starting late this year so I’m choosing Peril the Second, which comprises reading two books. My first choice is Sea of Secrets, which a good friend, Raven Hart suggested. We were talking about the sad loss of the gothic genre, but Raven says this is a great one, recently written. I’m pretty excited.

My second book will be The Last Detective, by Peter Lovesey. I’ve never read him before, but I cannot resist a British police procedural. I can’t remember who suggested him to me, but I’m looking forward to meeting Detective Superintendent Peter Diamond!

I’m also choosing Peril on the Screen, which means I need to watch scary movies. I’ll probably watch more than one of those! Scary, being a relative thing–I can’t do movies where even the commercials give me a year’s worth of nightmares. But–I love a thriller–and crazy, possibly homicidal/possibly heroic classic, golden age actors like Errol Flynn really appeal to me. Then, there’s the annual watching of Arsenic and Old Lace. Pretty sure I’ll work in a few films. (Yay!)

After I complete each story/movie for the challenge, I’m supposed to post at the review site. Check those out. You might find an irresistible challenge!  😉
